Standard Tune - $145

This includes evaluation of piano condition and bringing the piano back to a standard tune. Piano should not have fallen more than 15% of a half step flat (or sharp). For pianos that have changed more than 15%, a pitch raise is necessary for a stable tuning.

Pitch Raise - $55 (in addition to standard tuning rate)

A pitch raise is an additional "pre-tuning" necessary when a piano is more than 15% of a half step flat (or sharp). When a piano is more than 15% out of pitch, it causes extra stresses on the piano to bring the piano up to pitch so a pre-tuning is necessary to avoid string breakage or an unstable tuning. The piano is then fine-tuned as a separate step.

When a piano is severely out of tune (more than a half step), additional pre-tunings are necessary. This will be an additional price, discussed with the customer prior to any work being done.

Occasionally string breakage will occur with a pitch raise or standard tuning. The string will be replaced at the below prices.

Deluxe Service $210

Pianos can be difficult to clean, especially under the strings on grand pianos. Cleaning action parts helps pianos look and play better. The Deluxe Service includes a standard tuning, up to an hour of cleaning and making minor action adjustments. The main focus of the cleaning will be inside the piano and under the strings (on grands) where the owner may not be able to reach. A pitch raise is an additional $55.

Repairs

Piano repairs are priced on a per-job basis. When a repair is performed without a tuning, there is a minimum charge of $85.

String Replacement (when done during a tuning service)

Single Treble String Replacement - $50
Bass String Replacement - $95
Multiple String Replacement - Priced on a case by case basis

Piano Evaluation

Verbal Report: When a client is considering the purchase of a used piano, I will evaluate the condition of the piano both inside and out. This includes testing the tuning pins and evaluating the action. $95 ($0 when combined with a tuning.)

Written Report with a Monetary Appraisal: A written report will be sent to the client (usually by e-mail) detailing the evaluation of the piano. $165 ($85 when combined with a tuning.)

Service Call $85

Each piano is initially evaluated as to its condition and tuning stability. On rare occasions, a piano will be determined to be not able to hold a tune, or in such poor repair that other services must be performed before a tuning can be performed. In such cases, when I make an evaluation but do not perform a service on the piano, a standard $85 service call charge is made.

Payment Terms

Melodic Pianos LLC accepts cash or check. A $15 charge will be assessed for all returned checks.

Do you have a grand piano? My Deluxe Service will give it a beautiful tune and make it clean under the strings where it's so hard to reach. It will also be cleaned where you can't see - under the keys which will improve the way the piano plays. My Deluxe Service is available for upright pianos too!

Don't touch those strings! Rust on piano strings can be caused by perspiration on your fingers (especially bass strings). It's best not to touch them. If you want to dust the strings, always use a dry cloth and a light touch.

Where should I locate my piano in my room? Ideally, pianos should be located away from radiators, heating and air conditioning vents and direct sunlight. Most modern homes are well insulated so placing a piano near an exterior wall is OK. They should not be placed near patio doors that are opened frequently.
